    The Breaking

The fiery god set upon his red and orange throne that resembled molten metal and stone all mixed into one, it was not a pretty throne by any means. Brimestone stared down upon the lands and shook his head in disgust. These mortals, spreading all over the universe like a plague all because his fellow gods kept splitting the realms and creating multiple facets of the same thing. This god was a warrior god, once born from the fires of battle and at the creation of time when the land was first formed. Now it has become a mockery of its former glory. But how to fix this ongoing problem had eluded him for several eons as he sat there on his burning throne and stewed in his anger. The other gods were proud of their little design and refused to listen to him and his “mad” ramblings about returning it back to the way it was. This irked him to no end.

It came to him one day, year, eon? They all ran together when you were an immortal being. The only way to fix this perverted version of the world was to destroy it all. He would sacrifice himself and plunge his body through the false lands called facets now until only the original land was left.

And this is what he did, he left the heavens in his giant phoenix form. When the other gods realized what he was doing they cried out, some screamed, others shouted in hatred, but none could react fast enough to stop him and the phoenix god didn’t care to hear them, he had enough of their banter and ill-fated decisions. He slammed full force into the false facets, shattering and destroying them all. The repercussions were terrible to behold, and the exploding lands ripped and tore into his body, but he would not be denied until they were all gone but one.

On that final land, his body landed in the streets of the city Vesper, broken and shattered, but true to his name, he managed to rise out of the flames, although he was a mere spec of his former power. There, in his phoenix form, for he was still too weak to shape shift back to humanoid form, he challenged the mortals to either defend this last land and prove they were worthy of it, or he would consume it and the rest of the inhabitants as well. He then called to his followers, harpies and stone harpies flocked to their master’s call. With the god’s aid, the city militia was quickly overwhelmed and slaughtered, the citizens that didn’t get caught up in the onslaught hid behind the closed doors of their homes or shops, in cellars, and anywhere else they could to escape the notice of the denizens that now roamed their streets.
