Boat Decay System
Boats in UO Phoenix slowly deteriorate over time if they are not used or refreshed. This system ensures that abandoned ships do not remain indefinitely in the world.
Overview
Every newly launched boat begins with a 9-day lifespan. The timer starts when the boat is placed in the world. If a boat is used or refreshed during that time, its full 9-day timer resets.
When the timer expires, the boat begins to sink and decay over a short period before being permanently deleted.
Decay Timeline
Condition | Time Remaining | Description |
---|---|---|
Like New | 9+ days | Freshly placed or recently refreshed. |
Slightly Worn | 7–9 days | The ship shows light wear from time and weather. |
Somewhat Worn | 5–7 days | The wood begins to dull and creak. |
Fairly Worn | 3–5 days | Noticeable aging — keep an eye on it. |
Greatly Worn | 1–3 days | The hull is weakening; it needs attention soon! |
In Danger of Collapsing | ≤1 day | The boat will sink within 24 hours. |
Total Lifetime: 9 days
Checking Boat Condition
- Single-click the Tiller Man to see the boat’s current decay stage.
- The tillerman’s label will display one of the following messages:
- Slightly Worn
- Somewhat Worn
- Fairly Worn
- Greatly Worn
- In Danger of Collapsing
Preventing Decay
You can refresh your boat at any time to reset its decay timer:
- Simply board the boat or use the tillerman.
- Any interaction with your boat (movement, raising/lowering anchor, renaming, etc.) will refresh it.
- Each refresh restores the full 9-day lifespan.
When a Boat Decays
When a boat reaches the end of its decay timer:
- The tillerman will announce that the ship is sinking.
- The hull will gradually lower beneath the waves.
- After several seconds, the boat and its components are deleted.
All unsecured items on deck will be lost permanently when this happens.
Tips
- Always anchor and refresh your boat regularly.
- Avoid leaving valuables or pets on board.
- If you plan to take a break from sailing, dry dock your boat to store it safely.
